Compared to Nebbiolo, the general Barbera style is more in tune with the average contemporary consumer’s tastes: Bold, deep juice, and marked with a punchy acidity. The Asti style is the typical variation of a great Barbera, lighter than its fleshier Alba counterpart.
The wine’s colour is a bright, particularly intense ruby red that evolves into a garnet copper with age.The nose is intense and vinous in its youth. Sharp cherry, prunes, blackberries, and floral notes are prevalent, while aging develops jammy fruit and intense balsamic essences.
Notes of warm spices like cinnamon, aging leads to soft and velvety tannins that can be quite unruly in its youth.
