The Abbaye de Forest tickles the taste buds with fruity impressions of raisins that culminate in a pleasantly zesty, subtly bitter finish. It’s a blonde abbey-style beer characterised by a touch of hops, a good balance of sweet and bitter flavours and a rather pronounced character.

The name of the beer refers to the Benedictine Abbaye de Forest that existed from 1106 until 1764, when the abbey was destroyed by a fire. Also, there is a cheese maker from Thoricourt (a small town near to the brewery), who produces a 'beer cheese' using Silly's very-own Abbaye de Forest.

Brasserie de Silly

One of the benefits of being a farm worker in Belgium was that you could drink beer on the job, although this was mainly because there was no clean drinking water. Brasserie de Silly is the product of this and thus came about so the farm could brew seasonal beers for their field workers.

Now six generations later, and still family owned, Brasserie de Silly has expanded into all traditional Belgian beer styles with a few surprises thrown in. Look out for the grapefruit enhanced Pink Killer and Burgundy barrel-aged Scotch.
